How to compress an image
- Drag and drop one or more images into the box, or click to choose files.
- Adjust the quality slider. Lower quality means a smaller JPG or WebP file. The result updates automatically.
- Compare the before and after file size shown next to each image.
- Download images one by one, or download them all at once.
Features
- Works with JPG, PNG and WebP. GIF, BMP and AVIF are saved as PNG or JPG (animated GIFs keep the first frame only).
- Choose the output format: JPG, PNG or WebP.
- Adjustable quality slider for JPG and WebP, with the before and after file size shown for each image.
- Batch compression for multiple images.
- PNG kept as PNG is compressed losslessly. To make a PNG noticeably smaller, convert it to WebP or JPG; the page suggests this for you.
- No watermarks and no file-size paywall.
How much smaller will my image get?
It depends on the image. Large photos straight from a phone or camera usually shrink the most. Images that are already compressed, or simple graphics, may shrink only a little. A PNG kept as PNG may not get smaller at all. For an exact size target, use Resize to KB instead.
Your images stay on your device
Compression runs in your browser using your device's processor. We never receive your files, so we can't view, keep or share them. Once the page has loaded, you can even compress images with your internet connection turned off.
Frequently asked questions
Will compressing reduce image quality?
Lossy compression removes some detail, but at moderate settings the difference is usually hard to see. The preview and file size update as you move the slider, so you can check before downloading.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no limit set by us. Very large images depend on your device's memory and may take longer. Compressed images keep their original width and height.
Are my images uploaded?
No. All compression happens locally in your browser.
Can I compress multiple images at once?
Yes. Add several files and download them individually or together.
What's the difference between compressing and resizing?
Compressing keeps the dimensions and reduces file size. Resizing changes the width and height. You can use both.
Why didn't my PNG get smaller?
When you keep the PNG format, compression is lossless, so the quality slider has no effect and the file may not shrink. Convert it to WebP, or to JPG if you don't need transparency, to reduce the size.
Can I compress GIF, BMP or AVIF files?
Yes, where your browser can open them. They are saved as PNG or JPG, and an animated GIF keeps only its first frame.
