Resize Image to KB

Hit the file size your form asks for, without uploading your photo.

Choose a target of 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB or 240 KB, or enter your own. KitFern adjusts the image until it fits.

Output is always at or under the target (1 KB = 1000 bytes, so it also passes forms that count 1 KB as 1024 bytes). Without fixed dimensions, the tool lowers quality first and then the dimensions if needed. With both width and height set, the photo is center-cropped to exactly that size and only quality is reduced.

Results update automatically when you change a setting.

How to resize an image to a specific KB size

    1. Upload your photo or scanned signature (it stays on your device).
    2. Choose a preset target (20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB or 240 KB, the US visa photo limit) or type a custom size.
    3. Optional: set the required pixel dimensions, for example 600 × 600 px. If you enter both width and height, the image is cropped from the center to that size.
    4. The tool works automatically: it reduces quality and, if needed, dimensions (unless you set them in step 3) until the file is at or under your target.
    5. Check the preview and the final size, then download.

Prefer exact dimensions? Resize by pixels instead, or use the Image Compressor to choose the quality yourself.

    Made for application forms

Job portals, exam registrations, visa applications and government websites often require a photo or signature under a strict size limit. This tool is built for exactly that. Always check the form's official instructions for the required dimensions, format and size.

    What to expect

Very small targets (for example under 20 KB) may visibly lower quality, especially for large or detailed photos. If the result looks too soft, try a slightly higher target or crop the image first.

    Your documents stay private

ID photos and signatures are sensitive. With KitFern, they are processed in your browser and never sent to our servers.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce a photo to 50 KB?

Upload the photo, choose 50 KB as the target, and the result appears automatically. The tool finds the best quality that fits under 50 KB.

Can I resize my signature to 20 KB?

Yes. Upload a clear scan or photo of your signature and choose 20 KB. A plain white background usually gives the best result.

Will the file be exactly the size I choose?

It will be at or slightly under your target, because image files can't always be cut to an exact byte count.

    Which format should I use?

Most forms accept JPG. Check your form's instructions and pick the format it asks for.

Is it safe to resize ID photos here?

Your image is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded to our servers.

Why does my image look blurry at a small size?

Very low size targets force strong compression. Try a slightly larger target or crop out empty areas.

What does the 240 KB option do?

It sets the target to 240 KB, the file size limit for US visa photos. Pair it with 600 × 600 pixels in step 3. KitFern only handles size and dimensions; it can't confirm your photo will be accepted, so always check the official requirements.
