    What is EXIF data?

EXIF is information your camera or phone saves inside each photo. It can include the date and time, camera model, settings, and often the exact GPS location where the photo was taken. When you share the original file, this data can go with it.

    How to remove EXIF data

    1. Drop one or more photos into the box.
    2. Review the metadata found in each file, including any location data.
    3. Click to download a clean copy without the metadata.
    4. Your original files are not changed.

    Features

    • Shows the metadata found in each photo before you remove it.
    • Highlights GPS location data when present.
    • One click downloads a clean copy. The image is re-encoded, which leaves the metadata behind.
    • Batch processing for several photos.

Want a smaller file too? Also make it smaller with the Image Compressor.

    Why removing metadata locally matters

Uploading a photo to a website just to strip its location data defeats the purpose. KitFern reads and removes metadata inside your browser, so the photo and its details are never sent to us. How local processing works.

    Good to know

Some social networks remove metadata when you post, but many messaging apps, email and file-sharing services send the original file as-is. Removing metadata yourself is the simplest way to be sure.

    Frequently asked questions

    What does EXIF data include?

Typically the date and time, camera or phone model, camera settings, and sometimes GPS coordinates.

Can a photo reveal where I live?

If location services were on when you took the photo, the file may contain GPS coordinates that point to that location. Removing EXIF data deletes them.

Are my photos uploaded to remove metadata?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your device.

Does the clean copy change my image?

To remove the metadata, KitFern saves the image again (re-encodes it). JPG and WebP quality may change very slightly. A PNG copy can end up larger than the original file.

Can I just view EXIF data without removing it?

Yes. Add a photo to see its metadata, and download only if you want a cleaned copy.

    Which formats work?

JPG, PNG and WebP, plus GIF, BMP and AVIF where your browser supports them. GIF, BMP and AVIF are saved as PNG or JPG, and animated GIFs keep only the first frame.
